Für die Durchführung von B.A.R.B.I.E ist der Einsatz von ScienceTaxi mit den Modulen „BioForge“ (Bioprinting) und „Biospin“ (Cellbox) der Yuri GmbH vorgesehen. BioForge ist ein autonomes, für den Einsatz im Weltraum entwickeltes 3D-Bioprinting-System der Yuri GmbH, das unter kontrollierten Bedingungen biologische Strukturen mit verschiedenen Bioinks drucken und kultivieren kann. Biospin (Cellbox) ist eine biotechnologische Zellkultur und Inkubationssystem der Yuri GmbH, das lebende Zellen unter definierten Umweltbedingungen auch in Mikrogravitation transportiert, versorgt und für wissenschaftliche Experimente stabil hält. Nur die Yuri GmbH ist im Besitz eines solchen Systems. Ziel der beabsichtigten Beauftragung ist nicht die Durchführung der Raumfahrtmission selbst, sondern die umfassende Missionsvorbereitung als zwingende Voraussetzung für eine spätere Realisierung der Mission. Vor diesem Hintergrund beabsichtigt die RFA, in einem ersten Schritt einen Vertrag mit der Yuri GmbH abzuschließen, der ausschließlich die Vorbereitung und Qualifizierung einer potenziellen B.A.R.B.I.E-Mission zum Gegenstand hat.
