The R250 – Droichead an Churraoin Road Realignment is located on the R250 Regional Road. The Droichead an Churraoin, located approximately 1.3 km west of Fintown, Co. Donegal is a narrow masonry arch structure with a span of 1.83 m and a width of 5.28 m. The bridge and its immediate approaches have been identified as a safety blackspot due to a combination of poor horizontal and vertical alignment, substandard cross-sectional width, and deteriorating pavement conditions. The western approach exhibits fatigue and alligator cracking, while the bridge itself has suffered parapet damage from vehicular impacts, compromising edge restraint and posing a significant hazard to road users. The purpose of this contract is to conduct the detailed ground investigation to progress the detailed design of the scheme. The GI will extend over the entire length of the proposed road development. Ground Investigation points will be carried out in the areas of the existing and new road construction with a number of trial pits to be carried out in green field sites. The objective of the ground investigation is to ascertain the ground and groundwater conditions that will be encountered along the route of the R250 – Droichead an Churraoin Road Realignment and to investigate anomalies which may be identified during the investigation.

9Letterkenny Northern Network Project - Ground Investigation Contract
Donegal County Council_1193LiffordFrist: 14. Sept. The Letterkenny Northern Network Project aims to develop the transport network to the North of Letterkenny Town. This strategic piece of infrastructure aims to provide a new enhanced connectivity link between Glencar and the Knocknamona Roundabout, reduce traffic congestion, support compact growth, and encourage modal shift. The scheme aims to provide a new road realignment of the existing L1152-1 Windyhall Road, include provision for segregated pedestrian and cyclist active travel facilities throughout the scheme, with reallocation of road space to accommodate this on existing sections of road. The works will involve carrying out a number of boreholes (rotary open-hole drilling and core holes), slit trenches, trial pits, pavement cores, dynamic cone penetrometer. The boreholes are provided to determine sufficient sub-ground conditions and depth to bedrock below proposed foundations. Trial pits are provided to obtain a geological description of the first meters of soils, to carry out in situ testing and to obtain soil samples. Pavement cores will provide information on the type of existing pavement at tie ins of the proposed road with the existing roads. Geophysical surveying can be used to aid in the detection of buried utilities. Slit trenches will provide information to establish the line, level, dimensions and type of services. Dynamic cone penetrometer will provide information about the soil strength and stiffness at areas of difficult access. Traffic Management will be required to provide a safe working environment for all works on or in the vicinity of the public roads. The plans showing the extent and type of work to be carried out at specific locations are indicated on the drawings included within the scope.Donneybrook Ground Investigation Works

Laois County CouncilPortlaoiseFrist: 09. Sept. The proposed Flood Relief Scheme (FRS) works include the construction of 1191m of flood defence walls and 5366m of embankments. The proposed Mountmellick FRS works are in County Laois in Mountmellick town. The works are proposed along watercourses including the River Owenass, Rover Pound, Clontygar Stream and Carroon Stream, which can be accessed from the national road N80 and regional road R422, and in the surrounding areas. The NIAH dataset revealed three Sites and Monuments (SMR) features located at 75m (graveyard), 95m (Church) and 170m (Historic town) from the proposed FRS structures. Works will occur on a mix of public and private land with landowners’ permission. Access to this land is predominantly available from landowners. The Mountmellick FRS is a proposed Flood Relief scheme covering Mountmellick town to address and mitigate flood risk from the nearby rivers and streams. The purpose of the site investigation work outlined in this Contract is to establish the following; • To reduce the risk of unforeseen ground conditions that could negatively impact the design of the scheme. This will be achieved by undertaking a sequence of exploratory holes using a variety of SI techniques (including boreholes, trial pits, slit trenches, dynamic probing, window sampling, peat probing and soil infiltration testing). • To acquire ground and groundwater information in areas not covered by historical ground investigations and other published sources. •To provide an initial assessment of the hydrogeological and geo-environmental characteristics along the proposed route. •To install instrumentation necessary to capture the long-term behaviour and seasonal variations experienced at key areas across the site. •To ascertain locations of underground workings (if any).Multi-Party Framework for the Provision of Site Investigation Services (Pro192)
