Conservation Studies at the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History (IAKH) wishes to acquire a high-resolution infrared reflectography (IRR) camera, in order to maintain its ability to conduct top-level research in technical art history and to provide essential teaching in art conservation based on technical analysis of artworks. The camera will primarily be used to examine the underlayers of painted works of art and are intended to replace the section's "artist's camera," a multispectral camera that has been in use in the section for nearly 20 years.

These research activities require high-resolution, non-destructive analytical techniques to characterise elemental composition and stratigraphy. The acquisition of an XRF core scanner will significantly enhance the Discipline’s analytical capabilities, supporting existing research programmes and enabling new avenues of investigation in environmental and archaeological sciences. The XRF core scanner system is required for the non-destructive analysis of drill cores and wet sediment cores, with elemental detection spanning magnesium (Mg) to uranium (U). The system will be used for advanced research applications in geoscience, environmental science, and related disciplines. Aug.The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering requires the procurement of a thermogrimetric analysis system to support the characterisation of solid fuels and related materials within the PEACEPLUS Clean Air project. The primary purpose of the equipment is to measure thermal decomposition behaviour, mass loss profiles, ash-related behaviour, and combustion characteristics of solid fuel samples under controlled atmospheres. The equipment will support research, method development, and future accredited testing activity associated with solid fuel assessment and emissions-related investigations. The required system must also include provision for coupling to a separately procured gas chromatography–mass spectrometry system for evolved gas analysis. This requirement is intended to establish a robust analytical platform aligned, where applicable, to relevant ISO and ASTM approaches for fuel and thermal analysis.
