RFQ/JURE/2609/51- Refurbishment of Mediation Centre at Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL)  The Support to Justice Sector – JURE (Justice Reform) Project funded by the European Union, in partnership with Ministry of Justice and jointly implemented by the UNDP and UNICEF Sri Lanka contains a holistic package of support to the justice sector in Sri Lanka. As such, JURE project will be implemented in close consultation and partnership with key justice sector stakeholders including the Judicial Service Commission, Ministry of Justice, Attorney General’s Department and Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka, the academia, professional bodies and civil society organizations. Commercial Mediation offers a faster, cost-effective, and confidential alternative to court litigation, particularly for commercial disputes. Despite formal recognition in Sri Lanka’s legal system, mediation has remained underutilized due to inconsistent lawyer referrals and limited integration within the legal profession, contributing to court backlogs, higher transaction costs, and reduced business confidence. To address these challenges, the establishment of a Commercial Mediation Centre was identified as a key intervention, with the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) selected as the most suitable host institution.  The scope of the contract is to refurbish and equip the existing space allocated at BASL to establish a Commercial Mediation Centre at the BASL to provide a safe, functional, and professionally branded environment for mediation services.
