Iarnród Éireann is seeking to engage a suitably qualified and experienced consultant and laboratory to undertake soil sampling of materials generated as part of railway maintenance activities. On an on-going basis, Iarnród Éireann undertakes lineside maintenance activities to ensure the profile and track quality is maintained within thresholds. This results in the excavation of life expired ballast and soil. This material is hauled from trackside and temporarily stockpiled at various compounds and depots situated alongside the track across the railway network (i.e. nationwide). The temporary stockpiling is to allow for waste classification and to inform on the material recovery/recycling/disposal options.

Sept.The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), on behalf of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), invites qualified and interested firms to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to participate in an upcoming solicitation for the provision of technical assistance for Adaptation and validation of biochar technologies to improve the resilience of soils and cocoa-based livelihoods in the Bolivian Amazon. United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), on behalf of CTCN, seeks to engage a qualified consulting firm to provide the technical assistance requested and endorsed by the National Designated Entity (NDE) of Bolivia. The objective of this assignment is to strengthen technical, institutional, and local capacities to adapt, validate, and scale up biochar technologies produced from cocoa waste, demonstrating their effectiveness as a climate adaptation measure and developing an operational and financial model that enables their sustainable provision as a service or input for cocoa-producing organizations and other agroforestry systems in the Bolivian Amazon. In Bolivia, cocoa agroforestry systems in northern La Paz face two primary climate threats: droughts and water stress during the dry season, which reduce productivity, and erratic and intense rainfall during the wet season, which accelerate erosion and nutrient leaching. Degraded soils have lost their ability to retain moisture, amplifying their vulnerability to these climate extremes. Although biochar can improve soil structure and water retention, its adoption in Bolivia remains in its early stages due to a lack of adapted technologies, validated protocols, local evidence, technical capacity, and sustainable supply models. The country is highly vulnerable to climate change, with growing impacts on food security, ecosystems, and rural livelihoods. This vulnerability is most severe in cocoa agroforestry systems in northern La Paz, where threats such as droughts and seasonal water stress during the dry season (May–October) reduce yields; and erratic and intense rainfall during the wet season (November–March) accelerate erosion and nutrient leaching. Soil degradation exacerbates these climate threats by reducing the system’s ability to buffer water variability, making rural livelihoods increasingly vulnerable to climate change. Cocoa production generates residual biomass—primarily husks and pods—which often accumulates without being put to good use. Transforming this biomass into biochar represents an opportunity for circular value creation with direct potential for climate adaptation; if validated technically and economically, it could be gradually incorporated as a service or input for rural organizations and families. This potential is supported by Bolivia’s NDC 3.0 (2026–2035), which sets directly related targets (Target 2: restoration of 1 million hectares of agricultural land through sustainable management and recycling of organic waste; and Target 5: at least 25,000 hectares of resilient agroforestry systems incorporating technological innovation); and the Economic and Social Development Plan PDES 2026–2030, which reinforces this mandate by prioritizing the bioeconomy and the utilization of agricultural waste. Despite the goals of NDC 3.0, Bolivia faces a gap between planning and action on the ground. In the cocoa-growing areas of northern La Paz, soil degradation—exacerbated by seasonal droughts and erratic rainfalls, reducing productivity and eroding the resilience of livelihoods. This vulnerability is compounded by a missed opportunity: cocoa waste biomass accumulates on farm plots, creating conditions conducive to pests and diseases, when it could instead be converted into biochar to restore soils and improve their water retention capacity in the face of extreme weather events. Aug.The Contracting Authority Avfall Sør Husholdning AS is a part of Avfall Sør konsern, which is owned 100% by Kristiansand and Vennesla municipalities in Agder. The company provides waste and sanitation services to all inhabitants in the owner municipalities and serves approx. 55,500 residential units with dunk sanitation, 5,000 residential units with buried systems and 3,700 cabin subscribers. In addition, the company operates three recycling stations and a large waste facility at Støleheia with various treatment activities such as sorting, composting, tiling and depositing. Avfall Sør Husholdning AS is the contracting authority for this competition. Read more about Avfall Sør at: www.avfallsor.no Background Avfall Sør Husholdning AS is currently collecting food and bio waste from households in the owner municipalities. The waste is transported to Støleheia, where it is composted in a separate facility. The finished compost is to be refined to soil products that are traded for various purpose. From 1 September the new supplier will take over the collection of household waste on behalf of the contracting authority. The collection routes are thus altered and the collection frequency for food and bio-waste is changed from weekly to collection every two weeks. The change is a part of Avfall Sør ́s work with increasing the sorting of food and bio waste. Analyses show that there are still significant amounts of food waste in the residue waste, and the aim is to move a greater share of this to the bio-waste scheme. At the same time, garden and park waste makes up a significant part of the total amount of bio-waste. In 2025, this fraction accounted for about 20 percent of the total tonnage. Avfall Sør also handles municipal commercial waste on behalf of the owner municipalities. Sept.The objective of the procurement is to ensure that the Agency for Waste management and recycling (REG) reaches its goal of collecting all hazardous waste from households. The current sub-contracts for transport and reception of hazardous waste expire 31.12.2026. In order for the agency to offer Oslo municipality ́s inhabitants the services for the receipt and collection of hazardous waste, it is necessary that the agency has contracts that ensure that the hazardous waste is transported to certified reception for further treatment and destruction. Okt.As the Supervisory authority for small private regulated water supplies in Wexford, Wexford County Council is required to monitor certain group water schemes and private premises which have their own wells, including caravan parks, schools, estates etc. The drinking water is sampled and analysed in accordance with S.l. No. 99/2023 - European Union (Drinking Water) Regulations 2023. Results are reported to Wexford County Council each month. The current compliance sampling contract ends on December 31st, 2026, and Wexford County Council is requesting tenders from interested parties for provision of these services. The service provider will be required to provide the following services: a) Compliance (and occasional investigative) sampling and analysis of drinking water for both 'check' and 'audit' parameters as set down by S.I. No. 99/2023 - European Union (Drinking Water) Regulations 2023 and listed in Appendix 1 Requirements and specifications. b) Occasional investigative sampling. These are normally duplicate samples i.e coliforms, e.coli free and total chlorine. Other parameters may also be asked for. c) In accordance with EPA requirements, all analysis of parameters in compliance samples (except for free and total chlorine, odour and taste and Dalapon) shall be accredited. Investigative samples do not have to be accredited. d) Reporting of results to Wexford County Council as detailed in Appendix 1 Requirements and specifications. There are currently about 170 private and group water supplies (Entities). This number is variable. It is expected that up to 15 additional schemes will be added during 2026 and these additional entities shall be sampled and analysed at tender rates. Each scheme shall have two check samples carried out annually. A small number of schemes will have more than two check samples and/or will require an audit sample. The level of analysis, including Limits of Detections must meet the requirements cited in S.I. No. 99/2023 - European Union (Drinking Water) Regulations 2023. The laboratory appointed (and/or sub contracted laboratory) must be accredited to !NAB (or equivalent) for all relevant parameters.
