Dazu müssen 395 Bahnen und Busse sowie 16 Wirtschafts- und historische Fahrzeuge mit entsprechenden C-ITS On-Board-Units ausgerüstet werden. C-ITS On-Board-Units ermöglichen die standardisierte Kommunikation auf Basis von ETSI-G5 oder cellular-basierten Technologien (C-V2X) und unterstützen relevante Nachrichtenformate wie SPaT, MAP, CAM und SREM/SSEM. Durch diese Standards wird gewährleistet, dass die Fahrzeuge mit verschiedenen LSA-Komponenten herstellerübergreifend interagieren können. Im Rahmen des Beschaffungsprozesses ist daher ein besonderes Augenmerk auf die Einhaltung aktueller C-ITS-Standards, Interoperabilitätsanforderungen sowie auf die Zertifizierungs- und Sicherheitsvorgaben zu legen. Nach der Gesamtabnahme ist die langfristige Betriebsfähigkeit und Verlässlichkeit C-ITS On-Board-Units über einen Zeitraum von zehn Jahren durch regelmäßige Wartungsarbeiten, rechtzeitige Reparaturen und kontinuierliche Systemaktualisierungen sicherzustellen, sodass die Kommunikation der ÖV-Fahrzeuge mit der Infrastruktur auch über einen längeren Zeitraum hinweg stabil und zuverlässig funktioniert.
