Das Projekt schlägt für die beiden Institutionen (Naturhistorisches Museum Basel und Staatsarchiv Basel-Stadt) einen gemeinsamen Neubau im Quartier St. Johann vor, der Synergien erzeugt, sowohl in Nutzung und Betrieb von gemeinsamen öffentlichen und betrieblichen Bereichen sowie der Infrastruktur. Mit dem Neubauprojekt werden die infrastrukturellen Probleme gelöst, die Publikumsorientierung ausgebaut und die bedeutenden Sammlungen und Archive künftig unter optimalen klimatischen und sicherheitstechnischen Bedingungen an einem einzigen Standort bewahrt, erforscht und mit einem innovativen Konzept einem breiten Publikum zugänglich gemacht. Für den Neubau werden in BKP 287.1 Baureiningungsleistungen vor Gebäudeübergabe an die Nutzer ausgeschrieben.
