Das LFC muss den Wellenlängenbereich 370 nm bis 870 nm abdecken, geeignete Komb-Linienabstände und extreme Stabilität aufweisen, für den astronomischen Observierungsbetrieb geeignet sein, fernbedienbar sein und eine hohe Betriebszeit am Teleskop gewährleisten. Zweck ist die Kalibration zur Erreichung einer radialen Präzision von 10 cm/s über mehrere Jahre zur Entdeckung erdähnlicher Planeten.
