An der Eisenbahnüberführung (EÜ) der Strecken 2200 und 2221 über die Emscher in Herne/Recklinghausen bestehen erhebliche bauliche Defizite, die eine wirtschaftliche Instandsetzung ausschließen. Die vorhandene Konstruktion entspricht nicht mehr den aktuellen Anforderungen an einen sicheren und zuverlässigen Eisenbahnbetrieb. Zur Aufrechterhaltung der Betriebssicherheit sowie der langfristigen Nutzbarkeit der Infrastruktur ist die Erneuerung des Bauwerks erforderlich. Gegenstand des Projekts ist der Ersatzneubau der bestehenden EÜ einschließlich aller hierfür notwendigen Planungs- und Bauleistungen.
